Andrea Gonzales, LADAC (she/her)
Practice Manager
Substance Use Counselor, Intern Mental Health Counselor

Andrea Gonzales (she/her) is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor with five and a half years of experience working with clients both individually and in groups. Born and raised in Albuquerque, Andrea sought a new adventure by completing her Bachelor’s degree at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. Being 2,000 miles away from home helped her appreciate her Chicana roots and recognize the importance of cultural competency in therapy and its impact on client outcomes. During this transformative period, she also developed a profound respect for the LGBTQIA+ community.

As a counselor, Andrea is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space where BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clients can find the help they need to recover. She utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and person-centered approaches in her practice. Andrea’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and understanding environment is at the core of her therapeutic approach.

Beginning in August 2024, Andrea will be taking on new clients as an interning Mental Health Counselor through the University of the Cumberlands, where she will graduate in 2025. With many years of experience as a substance use counselor, she is well-prepared to work with a broader population, helping individuals on their journey to becoming their fully-realized selves.

Since June 2023, Andrea has also served as the Practice Manager for Whole Self Counseling!

Dolores "Scarlett" Cortez (she/her/ella)
Associate Practice Manager, Intern Mental Health Counselor

Dolores Scarlett Cortez is an educator and multidisciplinary artist raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She moved to New Mexico in 2015 to study Studio Art at the Institute of American Indian Arts. While in undergrad, Scarlett utilized art to combat the cultural suppression of her Latina identity, which she had experienced while in Oklahoma. Since then, Scarlett has been working with her peers in New Mexico to heal generational wounds and cultivate a culture of healing.

Scarlett has four and a half years of case management experience working with marginalized youth experiencing homelessness. When working with others, Scarlett likes to utilize person-centered approaches such as trauma-informed care,  the Nurtured Heart Approach, and harm reduction tools to help others be their best and most authentic selves. She is a current graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in art therapy / counseling at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, NM.

As a future therapist, Scarlett hopes to work with Spanish-speaking and diverse populations using alternative forms of therapy such as art therapy and poetry therapy to address issues around depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, addiction, and nonsuicidal self-injury.

In her time off, Scarlett likes to write poetry, pet sit, and explore new food places with her partner.

Mikaylah Campbell, BA (she/her)
Social Work Intern

Mikaylah Campbell, BA, NMHU Student, is our new intern therapist. She is working toward becoming a licensed clinical social worker and enjoys working with and learning from others. She is passionate about Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and loves to hear others express their passions in life. Her bubbly personality and caring attitude allows her to connect with people on a meaningful level. She enjoys true crime, sweet foods, and everything pink!

Mikaylah is extremely passionate about supporting individuals through trauma responses and works from a trauma-informed lens. She works from an Afrocentric and feminist model and aims to decolonize the typical western ‘therapy models’. With that being said, Mikaylah does work with dialectical behavioral (DBT) and cognitive behavioral (CBT) tools. Traditional forms of therapy pique her interest and she believes in generational trauma being healed through traditional practices; she always supports clients in connecting with their ancestral roots and encourages self-exploration.

Beginning in May of 2025, Mikaylah will be taking on new clients as a clinical intern with Whole Self and is excited to meet people and hear about their human experience. She aims to use her education and love for humanity to aid others in this journey called life.
